Výstupom praktickej časti diplomovej práce je re-dizajnovaná kniha Hra o Tróny od spisovateľa Geogre R. R. Martina. Ide mi v nej o takzvaný modernizmus vo fantasy ilustrácii. Novým poňatím vizuality, v ktorej sa snažím čiernou farbou dostať do popredia nosnú tému knihy (atypické dejové zvraty ktoré sa často končia smrťou), sa snažím o jej odlíšenie a narušenie klasického klišé vizuálu typického pre fantasy. Okresala som jej doterajší veľavravný dizajn natoľko, aby si bol čitateľ schopný tvoriť svoju predstavivosť sám. Týmto postupom sa snažím priblížiť dizajn fantasy bližie k fantázii.
Súčasťou knihy je aj mapa sveta, v ktorom sa príbeh odohráva a séria erbov každého rodu z príbehu, rozanalyzovaných na konci knihy. Heraldika je postavená na typografii, ktorej tvorbe som sa venovala v prvom semestri. Písmo, ktoré som poňala ako modernú verziu Blackletteru, používam ako hlavnú historickú nápovedu deja, v ktorom sa kniha odohráva. Kniha má za účel priniesť nový pohľad na dizajn fantasy literatúry.
The output of my diploma thesis is re-designed book of Game of Thrones by writer George R. R. Martin. You could call it the „new modernism“ in fantasy illustration. In my new visual concept I am trying to use black color
to emphasise the main theme of the book - atypical storytwists and turns that mainly end by death. I'm trying to disrupt the typical clichés of fantasy. I was trying to reduce it's literal design, in order to make some space for the reader's imagination. This way I'am trying to bring fantasy genre closer to actual fantasy and imagination.
The book also includes the map of the world in which the story takes place and a series of coats of arms of each family tree analyzed at the end of the book. The book's heraldy is built on typography, which I was working on during the first semester. Typography which I created is a modern version of Blackletter. I use it as the main hint of the historical era of the plot. The purpose of this book is to bring a new perspective to the design of the fantasy literature.
